LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 26, 2008) − UK HealthCare's Good Samaritan Hospital is the recipient of the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliate's 2007 Tissue Donation Performance Award. The award recognizes doctors, nurses, chaplains and other health care team members who are committed to saving and enhancing lives through tissue donation.
UK HealthCare's Good Samaritan Hospital is one of only eight hospitals, out of 112 that KODA serves, to receive the award. "We are thrilled to be honored, but more importantly we are pleased to play a role in changing the lives of Kentuckians who are awaiting a tissue donation", said Frank Beirne, chief executive officer of UK HealthCare Good Samaritan Hospital.
Hundreds of thousands of people are treated every year using donated tissue. Transplantable tissues include bone, cartilage, skin, corneas, heart valves, saphenous veins, tendons and ligaments.
