Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive program that provides medical evaluation, supervised exercise, risk factor modification, medication optimization, and education to people who have suffered a cardiac event or suffer from pulmonary disease. A variety of equipment is used in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation including treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bicycles and a weight system.
During each session, the patient is monitored by the staff to ensure safety as well as progress. The courteous, professional staff includes pulmonary program director
Scott Morehead, MD, and cardiovascular program director
Alison Bailey, MD, an exercise physiologist, cardiac nurse and a rehabilitation assistant. Dietary consults also are available for each patient.
Studies have concluded that cardiac rehabilitation offers a 20-25 percent increased chance of survival to participants and lowers the risk of another cardiac event. There are three stages of cardiac rehabilitation:
There are six cardiac events that qualify for cardiac rehabilitation. These events are:
If a person has had any of these, his or her physician may prescribe cardiac rehabilitation.
Cardiac rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary program that helps the patient change his or her lifestyle while strengthening both the body and the mind. By learning about ways to prevent cardiovascular disease while simultaneously strengthening the body and heart, a person can recover from a cardiac event and help prevent future events.
Cardiac rehabilitation is based on a team approach. Our team includes a cardiologist, a cardiac nurse specialist, an exercise physiologist, a nutritionist and a rehabilitation assistant. Working with the team, each patient will learn how to lower his or her own risk of future cardiac events and become more educated about heart disease while increasing physical activity levels and improving quality of life.
Our OH! (Optimal Health) program gives individuals the tools they need to stay healthy and fit in a safe, non-threatening environment. Participants attend the program three days a week and work with our professional staff, which includes a cardiologist, a registered nurse, an exercise physiologist, a therapy technician and a dietitian.
The Optimal Health program includes:
A physician order is required to participate. Our staff can assist in facilitating this with your doctor. Program cost is $55 per month.
