Eastern State Hospital welcome visits by patients’ family and friends. Family includes anyone important to the patient, such as spouses, same-sex partners, family members and friends. Patients have the right to say whom they want or don’t want to visit them in the hospital, and may change their mind at any time.
Visitors are allowed after patients have been in the hospital 24 hours. We can make special arrangements for visitors to see patients outside of their unit and for visits by children under 18.
Visitation is held in the dining room of each patient care unit. Visitors sign in at the Welcome Desk and get a visitors badge. Any items brought to patients by visitors must first be checked by staff to make sure they are safe to have. Food or drink may be brought in for patients, but they must consume it before going back to their room.
Visitors will not be permitted to bring purses and other personal belongings into Eastern State Hospital. Visitors will be asked to empty their pockets and leave their belongings either in their vehicles or locked in secure lockers that will be provided.
