The new UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital doesn’t look or sound like a traditional hospital thanks to the UK Arts in HealthCare program. Multiple forms of art throughout our hospitals and clinics are made possible through private funds. The program features local, national and international artists.

The UK Arts in HealthCare program established a community-based advisory committee to help define the mission and vision of the program, write policies and select major commissions. The program features:
As the role of the arts in the health care setting is further substantiated, the program will grow and change to enrich the healing environment at UK HealthCare.
Shirley Ardell Mason "Sybil" exhibit
Works by Shirley Ardell Mason are now on display in the UK Chandler Hospital West Rotating Gallery. The exhibit features drawings and paintings in a wide range of styles that may have been influenced by Mason's psychiatric diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder. Mason gained widespread notoriety in the 1970s and was portrayed by Sally Field in the critically acclaimed film, "Sybil," released in 1976.
Live musical performances to celebrate the holidays!
UK Arts in HealthCare presents a December of live performances. Performances will be held on the UK medical campus during the lunch hour at multiple locations including the UK Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Clinic and UK Good Samaritan Hospital. Performers will range from steel drum ensembles and harp to caroling and singer songwriters. See the schedule.
The "Room with a View" exhibit by well-known Lexington artist Robert Tharsing is now on display in the UK Chandler Hospital East Rotating Gallery. The exhibit features a collection of
oil on canvas color paintings done from views of downtown Lexington at his High
Street studio in the 1990s.
In 2013, The UK Arts in HealthCare Program was recognized for excellence by the Governor’s Award in the Arts and the Medi-Star Awards. Both awards recognized the patient-centered focus of the program.
