UK Sports Rehabilitation brings together a multidisciplinary team of sports medicine professionals to provide you with a physician-directed program of treatment, rehabilitation and conditioning.
Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Friday
Physical therapists are a key component of the team and they work closely with your physician to develop the best rehabilitation plan for you. The highly trained physical therapy team has more than 100 years of combined experience. In addition:
UK Sports Rehabilitation offers a scientific, evidence-based approach to individualize your plan of treatment and rehabilitation. The team uses progressive techniques to ensure the safest and most efficient rehabilitation possible and incorporates injury prevention education to help avoid future injuries.
UK Sports Rehabilitation services are covered by most major health insurance plans. Cash, checks and most major credit cards are accepted. If you have questions, please call our insurance assistant at 859-257-1395 to check accepted insurance and payment methods before your visit.

Karen Benson, PT
Karen Benson earned her Bachelors of Health Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky in 1992. She had previously received Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Eastern Kentucky University in 1990. Karen has worked for UK Healthcare since 1992, specifically in the Sports Physical
Therapy clinic since 1993 serving as a principle therapist and supervisor of the clinic in the past. She received her Rehabilitation certification in Pilates from Polestar in 2000. She has presented at local, state and national conferences.
Karen’s experience has focused on treating musculoskeletal injuries of the ankle, knee, hip and shoulder. She enjoys working with all types of athletes and has experience treating performing artists (dancers).
F. Elkin PT, DPT, CMM, CGFI – MP3
Mark received his Bachelors of Health Science in Physical Therapy from the University Of Kentucky College Of Allied Health Professions in 1989. He later completed a Certificate in Medical Management from the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics in 2001. In 2013 he earned a Doctorate in Physical
Therapy from the University Of Kentucky College Of Health Sciences. He is also a Certified Medical Professional – Level 3, by Titleist Performance Institute, the world’s leading organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf
Mark has 25 years of clinical experience and his interests include evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in athletes of all skill levels from recreational to professional. Mark is also experienced in treating military personnel and injuries that may be unique to
Eversole, PT, DPT, CSCS
Kelly earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Ohio University in 2001. She had previously received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ohio University in 1999. She then went on to receive her doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Kentucky in
2009. In 1999 she became a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Her areas of interest include orthopedic condition, athletes/runners, post-operative care, orthotic fabrication, and return to sport.
She enjoys helping athletes and weekend warriors alike return to activity. She uses a combination of manual techniques and functional exercises to help patients achieve optimal function. Outside of work, she enjoys running races and spending time with her family.
Scarlett Haley, PT, DPT
Scarlett graduated from University of Kentucky with a Bachelor in Health science and a Masters in Physical Therapy in 1997. She completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UK in 2011. She is certified in Stott Pilates for rehab and her interests include orthopedic and sports rehab.
John Jurjans, PT, DPT, ATC, SCS
John has been at UK Sports Rehabilitation since 2010 after moving to Lexington from southeastern Pennsylvania with his wife, Karen, and his two children, Lily and Jack. He has been a physical therapist since 1998 after graduating from the University of Delaware Master of Physical
Therapy Program. In 2001, he completed a Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship at Duke University. He has been board certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) since 2004 by ABPTS and has also been certified as an athletic trainer (ATC) since 2002 by NATA. He attained a clinical doctorate (DPT) from
the University of Kentucky in 2013. John has presented both locally and nationally on a variety of sports medicine topics. John’s special interests in physical therapy include rehabilitation of sports medicine injuries as well as post-operative care for extremity surgical procedures.
Ryan McGuire PT DPT MS OCS CSCS
Ryan earned his masters and clinical doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Kentucky. He holds a board certification in orthopedic physical therapy and has been a certified strength and conditioning specialist since 2006. He has experience treating athletic populations including high school,
amateur, collegiate, professional and Olympic athletes. He previously worked as a sports physical therapist in a developing sports medicine/orthopedic surgery clinic and progressed to director of a faculty outpatient orthopedic clinic. In addition to his clinical work, Ryan has served as an educator since 2006,
serving as a primary mentor in an APTA credentialed orthopedic residency program, an adjunct instructor in the University of Kentucky Physical Therapy program, and formerly as a clinical faculty associate at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center School of Physical Therapy in Dallas, Texas. He has also presented and assisted at
continuing education courses with topic focus on sports rehabilitation and manual therapy.
Stacey Pagorek, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS
Stacey graduated with a BS in Biology from Spring Hill College and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Emory University. She is also currently pursuing doctoral training in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky. She is an American Board of
Physical Therapy Specialties, Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS), a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Stacey has been a member of the UK Sports Physical Rehabilitation team
Stacey is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, and also a member of the Sports Physical Therapy Section (SPTS) and the Section on Women’s Health (SOWH). Stacey has served the Sports Physical Therapy Section at the state and national level in both appointed and elected roles,
and is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Sports Physical Therapy Section as Representative-at-Large. She has also volunteered nationally with the Accreditation Services Committee of the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education
(ABPTRFE) and the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Specialization of Content Expert (SACE) for the Sports Specialty Certification Examination. Stacey also volunteers with the US Paralympics as a Medical Classifier for USA Swimming.
She is adjunct faculty at the University of Kentucky Physical Therapy program and assists with Functional Anatomy, Pathomechanics, and Athletic/Orthopedic Taping classes. She has assisted with clinical research, published articles, and authored a textbook chapter. Stacey has also presented
at state, national, and international meetings and has received awards at the state (KPTA) and national (SPTS) level.
Stacey’s professional interests include functional rehabilitation and she enjoys guiding athletes through the rehabilitation process. She enjoys treating sports injuries and seeing people reach their ultimate goal of getting back to an active, athletic lifestyle.
Richard Watson, PT, OCSSupervisor
Richard earned his Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of North Georgia in 1998. He completed his undergraduate education at Auburn University in 1992. He completed board certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) since
2004. Richard has also completed advance training in manual therapy hosted by the Medical University of South Carolina School of Physical Therapy earning his manual therapy certification in 2005. Richard has served as Sports Rehabilitation’s departmental supervisor since 2012, prior to joining UK healthcare Richard
served as Director of Rehabilitation for a multidisciplinary hospital.
