  • Jin Shin Jyutsu at the Markey Cancer Center

JSJ-Bradly-patientWatch a video about Jin Shin Jyutsu and how it is used to help Markey Cancer Center patients.

Jin Shin Jyutsu® is the ancient Art of harmonizing the body's energetic system. Originating from Japan, the name Jin Shin Jyutsu literally translates to “The Art of the Creator through Compassionate Man”.

Our bodies contain many energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths become blocked, this effect may lead to uncomfortable body symptoms. Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioners use light touch on specific areas of the body to open the pathways and restore the body’s energy system to a more harmonious state. At Markey, Jin Shin Jyutsu is utilized to assist with the physical side effects from surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, while decreasing stress and enhancing a sense of emotional well-being. Jin Shin Jyutsu is available for all cancer patients at the Markey Cancer Center without charge for the initial five sessions.

Through Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help our awareness is awakened to the simple fact that we were all born with the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves in body, mind and spirit. As children we suck our thumbs. As adults we rest our head in our hands while thinking and hold the back of our hips to ease our lower back. Through Jin Shin Jyutsu, when we utilize this light touch consciously, we can be a part of our own healing process. We can truly help ourselves! Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help training is offered to all patients when they receive JSJ sessions. All patients, caregivers are also invited to attend our free monthly Jin Shin Jyutsu “Now Know Myself” seminars, offered the second Wednesday of each month from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. in Conference Room 306 of the Whitney-Hendrickson Building at Markey (the conference room is in the Psych-Oncology area of the building). There is no registration necessary.

The Jin Shin Jyutsu program at the Markey Cancer Center is made possible through the generosity of the Lexington Cancer Foundation and individual contributions. • Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help Videos

You have used Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help all of your life without even realizing it. Babies suck their thumbs and fingers; we relax in a hammock with hands behind our head. We cross our arms, sit on our hands, and hold our fingers. When we do this with purpose, we can make positive changes in the way we feel both physically and emotionally.

The short videos below have been developed to assist patients, family and caregivers with the stresses and effects of cancer. Each video gives a short presentation and demonstration of self-help you can use for yourself and others. Watch and practice, remembering that what feels good to you is what your body currently wants.
